Boosaaso (PP News Desk) — Puntland Defence Forces yesterday took control of an ISIS training camp in the Calmiskaad mountain range. Senior members of the terrorist organisation used the camp to train new recruits, made up of Somalis and foreigners.
ISIS terrorists fled the camp, leaving behind devices, maps and registers written in Somali and Arabic. The Puntland State government has not disclosed the content of the written materials.
One of the registers contains the names of foreigners in ISIS. “It is a nom de guerre, not the proper name of an ISIS member,” said a security expert in Boosaaso.
Meanwhile, in Boosaaso, the regional authorities declared measures to check the legal status of foreigners in the commercial city of Puntland.
The Bari Regional Security Committee held a meeting yesterday in Boosaaso. “Security forces will check the residence status of all foreigners in Boosaaso to ensure they are not members of ISIS,” said Colonel Cabdiqaadir Jaamac Dirir, the Police Commander for Bari Region, who read out the statement on the enhanced security measures.
“Since most of the ISIS terrorists are foreign individuals, we have instructed the security forces to thoroughly check the residence status of all foreigners, particularly in Boosaaso, to ensure they are not members of or used by the terrorist groups we are fighting,” said Colonel Dirir.
Colonel Dirir also stated that carrying weapons and the use of vehicle window tints in Boosaaso has been banned to prevent terrorists from masquerading as law-abiding citizens.
