Puntland President Grants Amnesty to Suspected ISIS Members

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The President of Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni, has granted amnesty to suspects accused of having ties with ISIS militants.

President l Deni issued an order for the release of these detainees from prison after investigators found no evidence implicating them in assisting or being members of ISIS, also known as Da’esh.

Puntland State has launched a large-scale counterterrorism operation against ISIS terrorists hiding in the Cal Miskaad mountain range. More than 50 ISIS members have surrendered to the Puntland State Defence Forces.

The people of Puntland State have shown solidarity in rooting out terrorism from the mountainous areas where ISIS was planning to establish its base in East Africa. About one-third of ISIS fighters are believed to be foreigners.
