Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Agriculture Ministry of Somalia claimed that Puntland State would receive two tractors, unlike other federal member states, each of which received five tractors. The Agriculture Minister, Mohamed Abdi Hayir, stated that Puntland State had received its tractors from the Food Systems Resilience Programme.
“Tractors are the property of the state and will be registered at the Auditor General’s Office. The Federal Agriculture Ministry and its federal member state counterparts will oversee the tractors, which will be used by farmers free of charge,” reads the statement signed by the Agriculture Minister.
The Puntland Agriculture Ministry has not commented on the tractors allocated to federal member states or on where Puntland received tractors from the Food Systems Resilience Programme.
Responsibility for the upkeep of tractors lies with the federal member states under whose jurisdiction the Farm Machinery and Agricultural Services Organisation (ONAT) operates.
