Mudug Governor Accuses the Somali Federal Government of “Fuelling Clan Conflicts” in the region

Faysal Sheikh Ali Jifa-jabsade, accused the Federal Government of Somalia of fuelling inter-clan conflicts in Mudug.

Gaalkacyo (PP News Desk) — The Puntland-appointed Governor of the Mudug Faysal Sheikh Ali Jifa-jabsade, yesterday accused the Somali government of fuelling inter-clan conflicts in the region whose administrative capital district is separately controlled by Puntland State and Galmudug State.

The Governor claimed that both the Federal Government of Somalia and terrorist groups are implicated in sowing discord among clans in the region. He alleged that both entities “instigate clan-based conflicts and divisions along clan lines.”

He further accused the Federal Government of Somalia of establishing clan borders in the Mudug region and inciting clans through fabricated territorial disputes, exacerbating the ongoing clan wars.

“There are many entities working to create problems. They urge people to claim territory or [district] borders that do not exist,” said Faysal Sheikh Ali Jifa-jabsade.

The 1993 Mudug Agreement serves as the foundation for inter-clan co-existence in Mudug. The Federal Government of Somalia has allegedly instructed its forces and allied Macawisley paramilitaries to claim areas under the jurisdiction of Puntland State. “This policy creates additional security pressure on Puntland and is exploited by Al-Shabaab, whose forces continue to operate in parts of Galmudug State” said a security official in North Gaalkacyo.
