Puntland Electoral Commission Publishes Electoral Guidelines for Three Districts

President Said Abdullahi Deni of Kaah Party was on the campaign trail in Garowe earlier this week.

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Puntland Electoral Commission today publishes electoral guidelines governing local government elections to take place in Garowe, Godobjiiraan and Dangoroyo on 23 July 2024, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Movement of public transport and government vehicles to and from election sites will be restricted. Only registered voters and PEC staff will be allowed access to the voting sites. PEC has introduced biometric registration to prevent electoral fraud such as multiple registrations.

PEC staff prepare to deliver ballot boxes for election stations in Garowe, Godobjiiraan and Dangorayo.

PEC guidelines prohibit the display of political parties’ logos at the voting stations. The Puntland Police Force will enforce this aspect of the guidelines. PEC staff, medical professionals and contingents of the police force tasked with ensuring security during the elections have travelled to the voting stations of the three districts, where they will work until the voting period ends.

Puntland Police Force is tasked with ensuring the security at the voting stations tomorrow.

The elections for the three districts were postponed last year to resolve differences between political stakeholders. Puntland political parties have expressed support for the electoral process and PEC guidelines.
