Puntland Auditor General Issues Ultimatum to Former Officials Over Missing Government Vehicles

Osman: “Failure to comply with this directive would result in the names of the non-compliant individuals being passed on to law enforcement agencies in Puntland State of Somalia.”

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Office of the Auditor General of Puntland State of Somalia has issued an ultimatum to former government officials who are still using government vehicles. The statement, released earlier today, follows an investigation into missing government vehicles, which revealed troubling reports last month about government-owned cars being sold in the market.

In his statement, Auditor General Osman Mohamed Ali demanded that any individuals who no longer work for the Puntland State Government but continue to use government vehicles must return them to the Auditor General’s Office by 16 July, 2024. He warned that failure to comply with this directive would result in the names of the “former officials” being passed on to law enforcement agencies.

The announcement did not clarify whether the Auditor General directly communicated with the former officials or if respective government agencies reported the missing vehicles and requested their retrieval. This ultimatum reflects the Puntland government’s efforts to ensure accountability and recover state assets improperly kept by former officials.
