Galkayo (PP News Desk) — The Puntland Police have arrested Abshir Abdi Jowfe, the ringleader behind the hijacking of the vessel Mv Abdullah several months ago. The arrest was announced in a press release issued by the Galkayo regional police about the successful operation that led to Jowfe’s capture.

Abshir Abdi Jowfe, 36, is accused of orchestrating the hijacking of the vessel MV Abdullah, an incident that drew international attention and concern about the possible return of piracy off the coast of Somalia. The pirates, under Jowfe’s command, had demanded and received a ransom to release the ship and its crew.

The arrest of Jowfe marks the third pirate arrested by the Puntland Police Force within the last four days. “Pirates have no where to hide” said a senior anti-piracy task force officer in Garowe. The operation to track down Jowfe and his associates involved extensive surveillance and intelligence-gathering, culminating in their capture in Mudug and Nugaal.
