Garowe (PP News) — Puntland Police announced today the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in the recent hijacking of the MV Abdullah, a ship owned in Bangladesh. The press release issued by Puntland Police identified the suspect as Mohamed Ali Adam. Adam is believed to be one of the pirates responsible for the hijacking.

The operation leading to the arrest was overseen by Chief Police of Nugaal, Mohamed Ali Marduf. Mohamed Ali Adam was apprehended in Yabayil village of Dangorayo district, where he was hiding.

The MV Abdullah was seized by pirates on March 12, 2024, in waters off Nugaal coast of Somalia. Following negotiations, the ship and its crew were released on April 13, 2024, after a ransom of 5 million dollars was paid to the kidnappers. Puntland authorities have intensified efforts to combat piracy in the region. The arrest of Mohamed Ali Adam sends a clear message to pirates intent on resuming piracy.
