Adaado (PP News Desk) — To counter the desertification trend in Somalia, a Somali engineer has manufactured a cooker operating on used car oil. Abdiweli Nur Halane, an engineer based in Adaado, used materials available in Somalia to manufacture a new cooker to reduce the use of charcoal and cutting of trees that result in rapid desertification.

“I have manufactured this cooker to end the reliance on charcoal. I call this project Badbaadi Geed (Save a tree). It is safe to use it at home” said Abdiweli, who demonstrated how to use his invention.

Locals have placed orders with Abdiweli’s workshop, prompting questions about if he can fulfil the increasing orders for the cooker. Customers who have bought the cooker have not reported safety issues. “People who have used the cooker had told me that it cooks fast. Now I am ready to buy it” said a woman who came to the workshop to buy the cooker made in Adaado district of Galmudug State of Somalia.
