Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The South State of Somalia today publicised the outcome of meetings between President Abdiaziz Laftagareen and Mustafe Agjar, the President of the Somali State of Ethiopia. Minister for Information Ilyas Ali Nur briefed the media on a security pact signed by the two presidents to coordinate joint counterterrorism operations against Al-shabaab.

“The security pact between South West State of Somalia and the Somali region of Ethiopia is aimed to jointly fight Al-shabaab and promote interactions between peoples of the South West State of Somalia and the Somali region of Ethiopia” said the South West State Information Minister.

President Laftagareen has paid a visit to Jigjiga where he met President Mustafa to discuss security threats posed by Al-shabaab whose forces attacked districts in the Somali region of Ethiopia.

It is the first security pact signed by a sub-national entity with Ethiopian whose forces remain in Somali under a bilateral agreement signed with the government of President Hassan Sheekh Mohamud eight years ago.
