Somali Ambassador in London Launches Fundraising Initiative to Buy Embassy House

Ambassador Ahmed Kheir expects that Somali community in UK will contribute generously to the project to buy a property for the Somalia Embassy in London.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Somali Ambassador in London Abdulkadir Ahmed Kheir convened several meetings to raise funds for a project to buy a property for the embassy.

The Ambassador aims to raise money from the Somali community in the United Kingdom. In a whatisapp group created by the Somali Embassy, potential donors registered interests to contribute to the project. Some members have pledged to pitch in £1000 individually.

The Ambassador offered his Mogadishu-based Dahabshiil account as the main Embassy account for contributions. A member of the whatisapp group deliberating the plan to purchase a property for the embassy has offered to have his UK bank account conveniently used for contributions. Other members of the group have questioned the use of personal accounts for contributions for the embassy house project.

“It is deplorable that money needed by drought victims in Somalia could be used to buy a property for the Somalia Embassy in London” said a member of the Somali Elders Council in London.

The Embassy staff viewed three properties in London to date. Kheir was the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation before being appointed as the Somalia Ambassador to the Court of King James.
