Somalia Auditor General Finalises Investigations into “Charcoal Case”

“Abdisaid has been accused of violating resolution 751 (1992) concerning Somalia.”

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Office of Auditor General today submitted the outcome of investigations into a charcoal case involving the Somalia Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse Ali, who was suspended by the Prime Mohamed Hussein Roble for authorising a ship exporting charcoal from Somalia to Oman “in violation of international sanctions”.

“Further to correspondence from the Office of the State Attorney General, the Office of the Auditor General has finalised the collection of information pertaining to a ship carrying charcoal and stranded in Oman. OAG has sent all the relevant information to the Office of State Attorney General” reads a press release from OAG in Mogadishu.

Abdisaid has been accused of violating resolution 751 (1992) concerning Somalia. “All Member States are required to take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect import of charcoal from Somalia” states the resolution.

The Foreign Minister has not so far commended on “charcoal case”. His silence is being interpreted as admission. The Petroleum Minister who signed an illegal production sharing agreement with Coastline Exploration in February was temporarily investigated by the State Attorney General but has not been suspended despite going public with knowledge that there was a presidential moratorium on signing agreements during the transition.
