Somalia Parliamentary Speaker Pledges Neutrality

Adam Mohamed Nur has not denied the claim by Saransoor that both men would join forces to replace Laftagareen with a loyalist.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The new Speaker of the Somalia Federal Parliament Adan Mohamed Nur today promised to maintain the independence of the speakership. “I will not side with any faction. I will discharge my duties in line with rules of regulations” Adan told new MPs of the 11th parliament.

Two days ago, Adan resigned from his membership in Himilo Qaran, a party led by Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, a presidential candidate.

It has come to light that Adan Saransor, who endorsed Adan after withdrawing from the second round of the election of the Speaker, had posed for the camera with the newly appointed Speaker to deliver a message that both men from Huddur are plotting to replace Abdiaziz Laftagareen, the President of South West State of Somalia.

Saransoor gives the impression that he uses Adan Mohamed Nur’s preeminence as an opportunity to effect “regime change” in South West State.

In 2011 Adan lost his Speakership after President Sharif Ahmed backed his ally and former Finance Minister Sharif Hassan to retake the Speakership he lost when had joined the then Asmara-based Alliance for the Liberation of Somalia.

Adan Mohamed Nur have yet to distance himself for the Saransoor’s Facebook post that makes the new Speaker’s claim to neutrality sound far-fetched.
