ATMIS Investigation into Halane Attack Angers Somalia PM

Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC) for Somalia & Head of AMISOM, Amb. Francisco Madeira.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The decision of the Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to make Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC) for Somalia & Head of AMISOM, Amb. Francisco Madeira persona non grata resulted from an AU Transition Mission in Somalia investigation into Halane compound attack carried out by Al-shabaab two weeks ago.

Francisco Madeira told the media that a team would carry out joint investigation into the Halane compound attack. The outcome of the investigation will be shared with the Prime Minister of Somalia, Madeira said.

Ambassador Madeira publicizing the joint investigation.

The Somalia Presidency rejected Roble’s decision to expel Madeira from Somalia. “Our Foreign policy is not anchored on emotions and vested interests and we value all our state-building process partners” said Villa Somalia in a statement.

A foreign diplomat can be expelled from Somalia only when the Foreign Ministry submits a report to the presidency about any transgressions by the diplomat in question. Villa Somalia rescinded the PM’s edict.

Sources close to the Office of Somalia Prime Minister told our correspondent that Roble might take more polarizing decisions to sack the Commander of the Somali Army and NISA director in violation of the transition mandate that bars the Federal Government of Somalia from overstepping its key duties to finalize the delayed indirect elections.
