Garowe (PP News Desk) — Mideeye and Sincad, two of the three Puntland political associations that garnered the highest number of voters during the 2021 pilot local elections, have accused Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni of circumventing the constitution.
In a joint statement released today the two political associations allege that Puntland State government had failed to discharge its duty to facilitate convening of district council sessions in line with the constitution of Puntland State of Somalia. Local government regulations stipulate the formation of the new district councils after the election of new councillors.
“Five months have elapsed since the end of pilot local elections, and yet the new district councils have not held any sessions. Puntland President and Puntland State government violated articles 44 and 124 of the constitution. Sincad and Mideeye are making preparations to legally convene district council sessions” the statement reads.
A court has ratified the electoral results and handed the file to Puntland Interior Minister whose officials were not available to comment on this story. Last year, Sincad and Mideeye formed political partnership to challenge Kaah, the third successful political association chaired by the incumbent Puntland State President.
