Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni will visit Qardho district and will hold meetings with the regional administration and traditional leaders. President Deni will proceed to Bosaso, where elections of sixteen Lower House seats will take place. Puntland President will visit the commercial city of Puntland despite the unresolved stand-off between Puntland Security Force and Puntland State troops over the reorganization of the elite counterterrorism force.
The decision to stick with the electoral plan discounts the speculation that Puntland Government could use the stand-off as pretext to transfer the election to Garowe. The Somali Federal Planning Minister Jamal Hassan is seeking re-election in one of the seats in Bosaso constituency. Recently, Jamal paid a visit to Dhahar, his constituency, where locals and influential traditional leaders have overwhelmingly supported his candidacy. “Any different outcome will be undermined by the popular support Jamal had received in his constituency” a traditional leader in Dhahar told Puntland Post.
Puntland Government has influenced selection of Upper House Senators, and was criticized for interfering with MPs who were elected at a military base in Garowe allegedly by fake traditional leaders who were paid to impersonate genuine traditional leaders.
