Banadiri Clan Accuses Somalia PM of Electoral Mismanagement

Khalid Mo’ow accused Roble of violating the electoral model to usurp the rights of Banadiri clans.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Khalid Mo’ow, a Somali MP from the Banadiri clan, had accused Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble of mismanaging the electoral process.

“The Prime Minister appointed a committee that takes the role of both a judge and jury. Camel rustling is a common practice among Somalis, but stealing electoral seats is tantamount to usurping rights of people” Khaled Mo’ow said at a press conference held in Mogadishu today.

Roble has come under fire for allegedly authorizing the use of powers to appoint fake elders impersonating Banadiri traditional leaders. “Banadiri clan members are not bound by blood; they are bound by a culture. They are Somalis known for civility and laying the foundation stone for the Somali unity” added Khalid Mo’ow.

A group of Banadiri traditional leaders yesterday called on Roble to rethink the electoral modalities he issued on Banadiri seats. Roble reportedly put the election of Banadiri MPs on hold.
