Somali Electoral Commission Members Disagree On Guidelines

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Members of the Somali Electoral Commission have issued contradictory press releases on guidelines for overseeing indirect elections. One group has described the new guidelines as “exclusive”.

“It is unfortunate that members of the Commission under the chairmanship of Mohamed Hassan Irro have issued a press release on electoral guidelines for the selection of MPs without unanimous approval of the Commission members” reads the press release from the disgruntled members of the Somali Electoral Commission.

Disagreements on overseeing indirect elections emerged after some members of the Commission demanded revision of guidelines. A voting on the proposal carried out in Mogadishu resulted in the majority of the members to oppose what a member describes as “unnecessary and a waste of time”.

A faction of Somali Presidential Candidates has expressed dismay over the recent selection of Upper House senators in Puntland, Jubaland and Galmudug.
