Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland political associations will receive $90,000 every month to cover expenses.
Puntland Vice President Ahmed Elmi, who launched voter registration event for pilot local elections, told reporters in Qardho that Puntland Government was committed to the democratisation process and that the monthly stipend for political associations would go a long way to deepen the democratic process that will replace the tradition-bound political arrangements in Puntland.
Ten political associations will contest pilot local elections in three designated districts.
There are unsubstantiated reports that one political association had merged with Kaah, the political association led by Puntland President Said A. Deni, making the number of political associations eligible for monthly stipend nine.
Three political associations will graduate to political parties after TPEC publicises local government election results.
