Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed tonight delivered a televised speech on elections and endorsed the return to September 17 electoral model as the way forward to conduct indirect elections in Somalia.
“We have viewed September 17 electoral model as the path to conducting elections in Somalia. However, its implementation faced hurdles” President Mohamed said. President Mohamed deplored recent violence in Mogadishu and accused former leaders of fomenting the violence.
“It has become clear to citizens that some people have proved to be saviours while others chose to displace their compatriots” he added.
President Mohamed thanked Galmudug, South West, Hirshabelle and Banadir for their efforts to facilitate the electoral talks. President Mohamed will go to the Parliament to reverse the mandate extension for federal institutions.
