Somali Parliament to Debate the Electoral Deadlock

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Secretariat of the Somali Federal Parliament publicised a parliamentary session to take place tomorrow. The session will revolve around Somalia elections following the failure to strike a deal on indirect elections.

MPs will discuss options to resolve the electoral deadlock over the implementation of 17 September Agreement and Baidoa Recommendations.

The parliamentary session publicised on the Facebook page of the Somali Federal Parliament.

Several MPs who were barred from attending sessions for indiscipline will not be allowed to attend the session tomorrow. Last year, the Somali Parliament endorsed 17 September Agreement on indirect elections. The International Community has called on Somali political stakeholders to “review and validate 17 September Agreement”.

The Federal Government of Somalia pinned the blame for the breakdown of electoral talks on Puntland and Jubaland leaders. Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni said that talks had not broken down.
