Dhuusamareeb Talks End in Deadlock

Dhuusamareeb (PP News Desk) — The Somali Federal Minister for Information Osman Abokor Dubbe held a press conference in Dhuusamareeb to brief the media about the failure of talks on the Somali elections.

Dubbe said that the Gedo issue had turned out to be an obstacle. “ Regions in Jubaland are reeling from the controversial 2019 elections. Jubaland leadership rejected the recommendation that Amisom be in charge of security in Gedo where selection of MPs and Senators will take in line with September agreement on the electoral model. “The Office of the Prime Minister handles any complaints about the electoral commission whose members should not be politicians.

Osman Dubbe: “The talks ended in a deadlock.”

The electoral agreement did not exclude civilian employees from being appointed as members of the electoral commission.” said Dubbe. The Information Minister said the issue of Somaliland MPs was discussed and the Government accepted recommendations from leaders of Federal Member States. “The Chairman of the Upper House Abdi Hashi was given the privilege to nominate four members of Somaliland MPs, that’s 40% but he rejected” said Dubbe.

President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed called for another summit to address outstanding issues. A joint parliamentary and Upper House session will take place in Mogadishu today.
