Puntland and Galmudug Sign Cooperation Agreement

Galka’yo (PP News Desk) — Presidents of Galmudug and Puntland Ahmed Abdi Kariye and Said Abdullahi Deni yesterday signed an agreement in Galka’yo, the divided city separately controlled by the two Federal Member States.

Puntland and Galmudug Presidents agreed to cooperate on security, institution building and business. The two Presidents of Puntland and Galmudug agreed to work on creating a consensus on the electoral issues, and thanked the International Community for its assistance to state-building endeavours in Somalia and support for the territorial integrity and political unity of Somalia.

Unsubstantiated reports indicate that Puntland and Galmudug Presidents agreed that selection of MPs and Senators take place in administrative capitals of Federal Member States. This unconfirmed breakthrough might break the deadlock over the electoral schedule.

Puntland and Jubaland declined to nominate their members of national electoral commission. They allege that the Federal Government of Somalia had influenced the make-up of the electoral commission.
