Office of Puntland Human rights Defender Urges Transparent Investigations into Three Cases

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender weighed in with a carefully worded statement on three cases. “The Office is keeping an eye on Shurki Ahmed’s complaint about the police, the case of a girl whose body was found in Bosaso, and the murder of an adminstrative assistant with the Military Court” reads the statement.

Last week, Nugaal Police Division unlawfully arrested Shukri, who was in her house in Dangoroyo district. The Office of Puntland Human Rights has been reticent about Shurki’s underage daughter whom Dangoroyo Police arrested before arresting and transferring her mother to a police station in Garowe.

Said A. Mumin: Chairman of the Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender

The Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender is closely monitoring the three cases to ensure that investigations lead to justice being served. “We contacted Shurki Ahmed, who was arrested in Dangoroyo, Nugaal Police Division, the Military Court and the Somali Police Command” the statement added.

OPHRD Statement: All investigations must be conducted transparently

The Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender urged law enforcement agencies and Puntland judiciary to conduct  fair and transparent investigations into the three cases. “The Police must take extra care with firearms, and respect the sanctity of human life. All investigations must be carried out in line with procedures and rules” the statement concluded.
