Puntland State University Students Manufacture Hand Sanitisers and Facemasks

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland State University students successfully manufactured 15, 000 bottles of hand sanitisers and 11, 000 facemasks.

PSU Health Science Laboratory pioneered the manufacturig process with a grant from Oxfam through its local implementing partner, Kaalo.

The Puntland Health Ministry Director General Abdirisaq Hersi Hassan commended the PSU students for putting their knowledge to use for the benefit of society. “ You manufactured what people need due to Covid-19 pandemic. When the pandemic hit Puntland there were no hand sanitisers and facemasks “ Hassan said .

Puntland Minister for Commerce Abdullahi Abdi Hersi urged other universities in Somalia to follow in the footsteps of PSU to conduct research into challenges such as poverty and corruption.

The Deputy Director of PSU Fuaad Mohamuf said “what we see today is the result of a dream many people viewed as unrealistic.”

Puntland Minister for Commerce Abdullahi Abdi Hersi, who attended the ceremony to launch PSU products for Covid-19 prevention, urged “other universities in Somalia to follow in the footsteps of PSU to conduct research into other challenges such as poverty and corruption.”
