Galka’ayo ( PP news Desk ) — Elders in Xidhdhin in South Sool have denounced a failed security operation conducted by Puntland security forces to arrest a man accused of the killing the former Commander of Puntland Presidency Guards Colonel Osman Omar Mohamed in Galka’yo one month ago.
A child suffered minor injuries after Puntland soldiers indiscriminately opened fire at houses in the hamlet. “We demand from Puntland State an apology and compensation for the family affected by the security operation” a spokesman for Xidhxidh elders said.
Puntland security forces were acting on unverified reports that the suspect had found a haven in Xidhxidh where his maternal relatives live.
Other uncorroborated reports indicate the suspect fled into Ethiopia via Galdogob. Xidhxidh is not under the control of Puntland State.
