Two Daljir Radio Journalists Detained in Garowe

Garowe ( PP News Desk) Puntland Authorities in Garowe have detained Khadar Awl Ismail, Daljir Radio Garowe Centre Director and Abdiqani Ahmed Mohamed, a radio journalist with Daljir Radio.

The two senior journalists were working on a story about a murder and rape case that Garowe Level 1 Court decided  this week. No court warrant has been issued for the arrest of the two journalists.

Daljir Radio journalists Abdiqani Ahmed (left) and Khadar Awl (right) were researching an investigative report on a trial that ended this week when authorities have detained them in Garowe today.

Last week Garowe Level I Court acquitted six defendants  who were accused of raping and murdering Hodan Mohamed Ahmed in April 2019.

Daljir Radio website reports that journalists have been detained on an order from the Chairman of the Court. “The two journalists went to the offices of the court to put questions to the court administration about the acquittal of the six men, reported Daljir Radio website.

“If journalists approached the Court for a story on the recently concluded trial, they were making sure that one-sided story should not be broadcast. The court could have declined to comment on a trial that ended. Detaining the two journalists is a threatening message to other journalists. Daljir Radio journalists did not commit contempt of the court” said a Garowe-based journalist.
