Aden Hassan Mohamed and Abdiasis Hassan Abdi were accused of working with the Somali intelligence agency “to which they passed intelligence about Al-shabaab”. Dini Abdulakadir Mohamed and Isse Osman Gelle were accused of “spying for the American Government and the Ethiopian intelligence service respectively”.

The Al-shabaab prosecutor did not present evidence against the four men nor were the defendants given the right of defence. Al-shabaab has lost territories to the Federal Government of Somalia after intense pressure from the Somali Army and AMISOM.

Al-shabaab is known to pressure families to allow their sons to join the proscribed group.
