How Firearms Were Smuggled into Mogadishu Central Prison

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The commiitee appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia to investigate an attack at the Mogadishu Central Prison has shared the outcome of the investigation with the Acting Prime Minister Mr Mahdi Guled.

The investigation found that on 8 August firearms were smuggled into the prison. Additional ammunitions were smuggled into the prison on 10 August. Hand guns, grenades and ammunitions were concealed in food delivered for prisoners by relatives, and in a sack of lemons.

The Federal Government of Somalia arrested twenty custodial corps officers, six civilian staff members and nine prisoners. The Commander of the Central Prison and the deputy commander face charges for collusion and dereliction of duty. The investigation committee has sumbitted the investigation file to the military court.

Twenty persons including soldiers and prisoners died as a result of an attack in the Mogadishu Central Prison.
