Jubaland Calls for the International Community to Organise Dhuusamareeb III Summit

Kismayo (PP News Desk ) — Jubaland State had issued a communique on the pitfalls facing Dhuusamareeb III Summit.

The Kismayo-based Federal Member State accused the Federal Government of Somalia of a catalogue of violations ranging from “the resignation of the former Prime Minister, the usurpation of Upper House’s representation privileges, to continued interference in Jubaland.” Jubaland alleges that “ the need for political agreement on 2021 elections is being ignored” and urged the International Community to help organise an inclusive Dhuusamareeb III Summit.

Jubaland’s position is similar to Puntland’s although the former has stopped short of boycotting the summit despite expressing doubts about the ability of Galmudug State to host the summit. Both Jubaland and Puntland view the resignation of the former Prime Minister, who lost a vote of confidence, as unnecessary. Kismayo and Garowe are in favour of indirect elections.

The electoral law signed into law by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed six months ago mandates the National Independent Electoral Commission to liaise with the Federal Government and Federal Member States to organise one person, one vote elections in 2021.
