Somalia’s President Promises MPs a Final Say On Any Political Settlement with FMS

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Muhamed today delivered a speech at an extraordinary session of the Somali Parliament in Mogadishu.

President Mohamed thanked MPs for passing significant bills although this year began against a backdrop of Covid-19 health emergency that had affected the legislative duties of the parliamentarians.

President Mohamed: The Parliament will have a final say over any political settlement with Federal Member States

“I thank you for attending this extraordinary session ay my request. I would like to brief you on talks with Federal Member States about elections. Political agreement reached in Baidoa is the basis for all talks despite some Federal Member States favouring indirect elections similar to 2017 elections in place of one person, one vote elections in line with the electoral law” President Mohamed said.

President Mohamed promised the Parliament that MPs would have a final say on any outcome from the forthcoming Dhuusamareeb Summit II “to enable Somali citizens to exercise their constitutional rights to elect their MPs.”
