Garowe (PP News Desk ) — Mustaqbal, a political association in Puntland, has raised objections to pilot local elections to be conducted at designated districts.
At a ceremony to hand certificates from Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission to new political associations in Garowe the Chairman of Mustaqbal, Mohamed Sibad, called for popular participation in local elections. “Plato said that failure to participate in politics leads to be led by bad leaders” Sibad said.

TPEC plans to conduct pilot local elections in Qardho, Ufeyn and Eyl. Abdirahman Farole, Chairman of Horseed, a political association and former Puntland President, said that he was committed to participating in local elections.
Unsubstantiated reports indicate donors have come up with the precondition to conduct pilot local elections in three districts. Key Puntland stakeholders objected to transition to political parties proposed by Puntland State Government in 2013.
Lukewarm support for pilot local elections in Puntland might transform into apathy if other political associations express dissatisfaction with the plan to conduct local elections in two pre-1991 districts and one hamlet.
TPEC is considering the possibility of conducting three-phase, pilot local elections throughout districts under Puntland administration if the call to increase the number of districts participating in local elections grows intense.
