A SHIP RUNS AGROUND AT BOSASO PORT

Bosaso (PP News Desk) — A ship carrying cement has run aground at Bosaso Port. Ismail Saeed Hussein, a senior official of Barwaqo, a trading company, told the VOA Somali Service that “a ship carrying 6,100 tons of cement tried to dock at the port but because of shallow sea depth the ship has run aground”.

The ship that has run aground at Bosaso Port is blocking entry into the port.

Asked if he was hopeful about a possible rescue mission to unload the cement from the ship, Saeed expressed dismay over lack of facilities at Bosaso Port to deal with such an eventuality. “There is a fear that the ship might tilt on one side and block entry to the port” he said.

Last week Abdiasis Ga’amay, a Puntland MP, accused DP World, which runs the port, of breach of contract that brought about discontinuation of dredging services that prevent sand from filling the seabed near the port.

Puntland State Government has not commented on the ship that had run aground at Bosaso Port.
