SOMALILAND PRESIDENT INAUGURATES THE FIRST PART OF BERBERA CORRIDOR ROAD

Hargeysa (PP News Desk) — The President of Somaliland Government Muse Bihi Abdi has inaugurated the first part of Berbera Corridor Road.

“I commend the project staff for finalising the first part of the road. Barbera Corridor and Erigavo Road Project are important infrastructure initiatives in Somaliland. As you know our land is divided into a coastal plain and  plateau with different temperatures.“ said President Bihi.

The engineer in charge of the road construction said the plan was to inaugurate 20 KM road but rain and substandard service delivered by local contractors affected the delivery of the project.

The Berbera Corridor road differs from Somaliland roads not only in terms of width  — 11.3  feet — but also has a 40 ton capacity to handle heavy haulage trucks. Contractors will finalise the project by September 2021 due to the delay in the first phase of the project.

The flagship Berbera Corridor Project will provide Berbera Port with a competitive edge in the Horn of Africa trade.
