Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Former President of Galmudug State Abdikarim Guled, who served as Federal Interior Minister, has congratulated people of Somaliland on the 29th anniversary of the unilateral secession from Somalia which is marked on 18th of May.
“I congratulate people of Somaliland on the peace they have managed to maintain since 1991” Guled told Horn Cable TV.
Guled led the Federal Government team that entered talks with Somaliland Government negotiators in Turkey back in 2013.
“The incumbent Federal Government has not attached importance to Somalia-Somaliland talks but I welcome the recent meeting between President Farmaajo and President Muuse Bihi” Guled added.
“Somaliland will not fall for Guled’s words meant to secure votes if 2021 elections in Somalia are conducted on 4.5 basis” says Awil Hassan, a political commentator in Mogadishu. Guled expressed a sentiment similar to the interview. “Today, it is the 29th anniversary of the declaration of Somaliland secession. Children who were born on that day are now leaders. To convince that generation on the merits of togetherness and Somali unity, one needs to have vision, perseverance and brave leadership” Guled tweeted.
Guled is a presidential candidate for 2021 elections slated to take place in Somalia if Covid-19 emergency does not necessitate term extension for the incumbent Federal Government of Somalia.
