SOMALILAND LIFTS MORATORIUM ON KHAT IMPORTS

Hargeisa (PP News) —  The Somaliland Committee for the Prevention of Covid-19 issued yesterday a statement to end the moratorium on khat imports from Ethiopia.

The committee published guidelines that khat sellers will comply with. From today (Sunday ) Khat sellers will have to abide by the following strict procedures to be able to sell khat in Somaliland:

  1. Two-metre space between two persons selling khat.
  2. Khat sellers must wear a face mask.
  3. They must keep hand sanitasers handy.
  4. Khat sellers must have fever detection devices to check the temperatures of the staff before business starts.
  5. Buyers should observe two-metre space social distancing rule.
  6. Khat chewers must not meet at majlises (khat chewing sessions).

Violators will face consequences ranging from a fine to a loss of khat retail licenses.
