PRESIDENT OF SOMALIA LAUNCHES AN ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME FOR THE POOR AND YOUTHS

Mogadishu ( PP News Desk) — The President of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed today launched in Mogadishu a programme of assistance for Somali youths and the have-nots. Known as Baxnaano ( Remedy), 1.3 million Somali citizens will benefit from the first phase of the programme.

President Mohammed commended the Federal Government for keeping the promise to introduce basic services for citizens. “The assistance programme is timely because our country is fighting Covid-19” President Mohammed said. “The ninth National Development Plan is ready to combat poverty, food insecurity with particular attention to people vulnerable to emergencies such as droughts and other natural disasters.”

The programme will be implemented in 21 districts. Four million dollars will be committed monthly to the programme. Farmers whose crops were affected by locusts are among beneficiaries.

President Mohammed urged the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the lead ministry, to implement the project effectively and transparently to help beneficiaries to gradually become self-sufficent.
