Kismayo ( PP News Desk) — Al-shabaab executed yesterday six men for spying for the Federal Government of Somalia, Jubaland and South West State. Al-shabaab court in Jamaame district put six men on trial and sentenced them to death by firing squad in public.
Al-shabaab authorities in Jamaame urged locals to witness the execution of the men in the town square. Al-shabaab-affiliated media stated Aadan Cabdullaahi Xaaji Aadan Boorow, Maxamada Iidow Aadan and Cusmaan Cabdulle Afrax were “found guilty of spying for the Federal Government of Somalia”. Maxamed Iidow Aadan and Hilowle Bashiir Aadan “were convicted of working for South West State intelligence service. Al-shabaab “found the sixth man, Xassan Hafow Saney, guilty was of spying for Jubaland State”.
Al-shabaab is facing intense pressure from drone attacks. Its counter-intelligence unit, amniyat, arrested fifteen men in Lower Jubba and Upper Jubba regions. Nine of the men were released.
Al-shabaab prosecutors presented at the hearings devices the six men were allegedly using to gather and send intelligence about Al-shabaab leadership and operational capabilities.
