Ethiopia has extended over 18 million Birr worth aid to Flood affected citizens in Central Somalia

Addis Ababa June07/2016 Ethiopia has extended over 18 million Birr worth nutritious food and material assistance to flood affected citizens of Somalia.

Some 70,000 to 80,000 Somalis have suffered following the overflow of Wabe River around Beledweyne town and environs in Hiraan Province one month ago.

Ethiopia has subsequently donated 18 million Birr worth nutritious food, water purification chemicals, and medicine as well clothes.

National Disaster Risk Management Commission dispatched the first round of the aid in cooperation with Ethiopian Air force.

The second round donation was dispatched from Adama Central Warehouse by vehicles carrying similar cargoes.

Commission Public Relations Head, Debebe Zewde said the donation will help to prevent the damage from worsening.

The donation is the manifestation of Ethiopia’s all-round cooperation and partnership with regional countries, he added.

Besides extending continued effort for the prevalence of peace and stability in Somalia, the donation in the face of natural disaster strengthens spirit of cooperation, according to the head.

It is to be recalled that similar donations were extended to Burundi and Sudan.
