PRE-QUALIFICATION OF RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (30 PERSONS)

Background Information

World Vision Somalia (WVS) has been operating in Somalia since 1993, implementing emergency and recovery humanitarian programming in Puntland, Somaliland and South Central. WVS works with vulnerable communities across Somalia through an integrated approach to WASH, health and nutrition, food security and livelihoods, protection and shelter. With its head office in Nairobi Kenya and three regional offices located in Hargeisa, Garowe, and Doloow and eight sub-offices positioned across Somalia, World Vision manages to maintain high level coordination with UN agencies, donor communities and INGOs as well as to be hands-on in field level operations.

In order to provide evidence of program interventions in the communities, WVS undertakes routine data collection, assessing the progress of the on-going projects and data collection during baselines and evaluations. In Puntland, WVS recognizes the available capacity of the young graduates that can contribute to community development through participating in data collection process. The development of this technical resource pool of young people who will offer expertise in data collection that WV and other agencies can draw upon as and when the need arises.

This is therefore a call to invite applications from qualified and experienced Research Assistants who are interested in providing the above expertise in data collection and research when required.

Purpose of the advert

The purpose of this advertisement is to pre-qualify experienced and interested Research Assistants to undertake comprehensive assessments and routing data collection activities that are being implemented by WVS Puntland Program. This will also offer an opportunity develop and enhance research and data collection skills among the successful candidates.

Roles of Research Assistants

Main responsibilities and duties of the Research Assistants will include;

  1. Participate in technical orientation and mentorship sessions organized by WVI or assigned partner(s)
  2. Conduct household surveys and informant interviews from target beneficiaries when assigned
  3. Review survey documents in order to ensure accuracy of data.
  4. Ensure that all questionnaires and other interview guides are completely filled
  5. Ensure adherence to a laid down Code of Conduct for Enumerators & WVI child Protection Policy
  6. Complete all planned tasks in required time frame evidenced by submission of completed tasks to the supervisor/team leader.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Educational level required: A minimum of a University degree in Social Sciences, Education, Health and Nutrition, Community Development, Development Studies, Local Government or any related field.
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Experience in data collection with International NGOs including World Vision in different sectors like Health and Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Education, Gender and Child Protection.
  • Must adhere to set security standards
  • Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work
  • Ability to work in and contribute to team building environment
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexibility and emotional maturity
  • Ability to exhibit exemplary life style as interpreted in specific local cultural context
  • Ability to collect and gather data in an objective way and ability to interrogate respondents
  • Active listener who captures exact response from respondents
  • Ability to communicate verbally and written in both Somali and English.
  • Basic understanding of mobile data collection applications including Open Data Kit (ODK) platform and ability to master new technology tools, as required
  • Ability to build rapport and good working relationships with peers and stakeholders
  • Confident and ability to make intelligent decisions.
